Forget Fred, forget flair, the real 'F' word for Victory is failure

What it had, and has not shown much of this year, is flair and its absence is bringing us all hunger pains.

Unfortunately, if you go by Ernie Merrick's post-game comments, his team has endured many a noble loss, playing some good football only to be foiled. While he's not completely wrong, he's not completely right.

Save for the away game to Central Coast, which it almost snatched with 10 men earlier in the season, I don't think we've seen enough of this flair, vision and hunger. I have seen moments of brilliance this year, but far too little to dine on.

As for the "Breakfastgate" incident in Adelaide where two key players were suspended for missing a meal and team meeting, if they had any of that on tape, the Victory could submit it as a pilot for a reality TV show called "Scapegoat" about how to make a mountain out of a mole hill and alienate a few key players along the way.

Make and take breakfasts

If you're going to be eating in the car or at your desk at work, you need that base to be substantial.

Our choices: waffles, biscuits or bagels, which can be bought or made on the weekend, stored in the fridge or freezer, chucked into the toaster to crisp up a little and spread or layered with various ingredients.

Bagels are a relatively low-fat option, available fresh or frozen. You can buy frozen waffles or biscuits in the can, but your breakfasts will be infinitely better if you bake your own from scratch on the weekend and store them for the week ahead. Add some wheat germ to the batter to healthy it up if you like.

Biscuits will keep in a sealed plastic bag for several days at room temp and will need no heating, but the waffles should be frozen and then thawed in the toaster (NOT the microwave).
